AVOCADO & BANANA SMOOTHIE
April 20th, 2015
The texture of this smoothie is to die for. The Avocado makes it so thick and creamy and the bite of the cacao nibs gives it a bit of zing. It’s a great alternative to your standard banana smoothie and the nut butter adds a tasty hit of protein, perfect for pre and post-workouts!
Avocados and bananas are both high in potassium so consuming before a workout can reduce risks of cramp which are caused by low potassium levels in the body. Potassium is also an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function. Bananas are a great source of B6, fibre, biotin for healthy hair and nails, vitamin C and manganese, as well as being a slow energy release. Whilst avocados are rich in iron, fibre and vitamin E which contributes to healthy skin. Cacao nibs are high in flavanoids, the antioxidant found in green tea helping to fight off free radicals that damage cells in the body. Also rich in potassium, iron, fibre and magnesium - important for muscle and nerve function. So the benefits of this delicious smoothie are endless.
1 Banana - peeled
(Freeze for a thicker texture & colder smoothie - plus you’ll have a constant supply of ripe bananas)
½ Avocado - stone and skin removed
2 dried figs or 4 pitted medjool dates
1 cup Coconut Milk (Chi is my go-to brand)
1 tspn Manuka or Raw Honey
a sprinkle of Cacao Nibs
1 tspn Almond Butter

4-6 Ice cubes
Break the banana and avocado up and put in a blender with the remaining ingredients. Add an extra sprinkle of Cacao nibs on top.
